RAC - Ride Across California -- Completed 11/6/05 (click here for more information) 6/20/05 Here's the scoop, I've set up a tentative route that will take us 3.5 days to complete. I'm not to sure about the first leg so I have created a leg 1A and 1B. I'm just not sure that a road connects for the shorter of the 2 legs. Eric or Hugh might have to check it out over the 4th of July weekend on the way through Yuma, or I'll verify the next time that we head to Tucson. Below are thumbnails of snapshots of the routes that I made using a topo map program. The profile at the bottom starts from left to right even though we are riding right to left, make sense??? Leg 1A - 62miles
leg1 a/b: Either leg seems easy. The leg is very flat and we'll have a ton of energy. I think it's a good first day ride. There is a camp ground in Brawley to stay at, it isn't marked on the map like the others.
Leg 1B - 75miles
Leg 2 - 55miles Leg2: 55 cruisin' miles. The beginning of our assent to Julian starts here. I think that this will be a cool campground too, it's in the Anza Borrego state park.
Leg 3 - 46miles (mucho grade) This Leg is going to separate the men from the boys or my ass cheeks from each other. This leg starts with a grueling 20 mile climb with grades up to 25%.
Leg4 - 39miles Easy ride to the beach. I'm sure we could have some people meet us out there for a BBQ or something! |
